Trendsetter?! AKA-Kindle's stolen name...

OK, so I was trying to check and see if you could easily find my blog in a blog search just now (I check once in a while to make sure it is not easy. If it is too easy, I will go private). Anyway, in my search, I tried searching for Kindle Catherine and found a blog that someone in Spokane had written about the names announced in the births in Spokane recently, and she wrote

"Trends in the making?: Sydney Lynn, Sydney Rose, Kindle Catherine, Kindyl Mayson

An older classic and a new version of Kendall that plays on the trend toward verb names – I could see these going places. Or just weird that two kids in Spokane would be named Kindle/Kindyl in the same week "

So, evidently someone else in Spokane named their kid Kindle (Kindyl) the same dang week we named our Kindle. So, I looked up that kids birth info on the newspaper website, and found she was born at the other hospital in town 4 days after Kindle was born, and all I can say is...they totally stole our name!!! Granted they changed the spelling, but what the...

Why can't the unique names we slave over coming up with just stay unique?! Why must people steal them and make them common? I will be so pissed if Kindle ends up on the top 1000 this year...

Happy (late) Birthday Lindsey!!!

Well, I have to first appologize that I did not get this posted a couple days ago on Lindsey's actual birthday! That said, I still wanted to say happy birthday! I know it must be a different kind of birthday celebration with Ty gone, but we hope you managed to have a great day and that you enjoyed yourself. You are great and we are so glad our kids have such a fun and thoughtful Aunt Lindsey!! We are excited to see you soon!!!

Happy Memorial Day

I would like to make mention of Memorial day, and share a few thoughts today...


OK, first I want to say that as I was thinking about Memorial Day this year, I realized that many of my best memories of my extended family especially center around Memorial day. This was particularly interesting for me to note as I remember dreading Memorial Day, knowing I would have to wake up early, and drive all over to just look at graves. However, as an adult, I realize those were great memories, and that a big part of visiting the graves was really to see the living relatives. As I remember it, we would wake up each Memorial Day at the butt crack of dawn (forgive my "potty talk", but seriously, it's true!!). At that point, we would make sure to cut flowers from the garden, make sure we had enough (and trust me, that was A LOT), then head out to Tooele (For those of you not from Utah that is said "too-willa") to see Papou's (my mom's dad's) family graves. In Tooele is where I would interact with second cousins, and my mom's dad's family.

After Tooele, we would stop at the Greek Cemetery in Salt Lake and see XiaXia's family's graves. I always thought that was cool as there were always priests somewhere nearby with their incense (which I always liked the smell of).

Then there was my Dad's annual last minute BBQ. Though we all knew he would inevitably end up doing a big old family BBQ, he never plans it in advance and we end up stopping at Dans on the way home from the graves to pick up all the stuff, while we call the family and invite them. Then the BBQ prep began quickly (and a huge crowd always made it over-I would guess they all expect the BBQ by this point, but just wait for the call and come on over). The BBQ was always fun and NEVER a small thing-the prep usually consisted of not just cooking, but setting up whatever new toy dad bought to play with in the back yard-usually something big like a volleyball net, a new slip n slide, a big pool, or all of the above. Seriously!

Lastly, in the evening after we were done entertaining and pretty much pooped, right when you thought the festivities were over, that is when the drive to Ogden to visit Grandpa's grave would come into play. We would drive out there and back and usually the day that began sometime around 5 AM would not end until around 11 PM or so.

We had a lot of fun and it did help us to always remember those that had passed on before in our family, and we would take particular note of those that were veterans of wars or that had died in war. This year we have been particularly thoughtful of the war at our house as Wesley's younger brother, Tyson is currently serving in Afghanistan. That being said, I was particularly touched to see Wes give money to the Veteran's at the exit of Wal Mart today. We don't have a lot of money with moving and having just had a baby, but he still wanted to share with those that might need it more and help those serving our country. Sometimes I have a hard time paying tithing just because of how much money we lack, but somehow as I sat in the car and watched him giving, it was really touching and so I just want to say Happy Memorial Day-I love the picture above and repeat the sentiment-Never forget, ever honor!

Now, about Ender...

We were explaining to our kids that on Memorial Day you try to remember those that have passed on and those that are serving or have served our country. We talked to them about uncle Tyson being in the war, and we also talked to them about Aunt Cathy (who avid readers will remember died recently). (This is a picture of us with Cathy when she visited us here)



I told the kids that since we will be in Utah next week that we can visit Cathy's grave then. (This is a picture of my XiaXia-Cathy's mom-at her grave this morning. There is no gravestone yet, so my aunt Julie put a paper marker down for today.)




Now, I was thinking Wes and I had just had a very serious and informative discussion about Memorial Day and that they were sufficiently sold on the idea. They were pretty serious and understood well, then Ender said, as serious as could be, "After we go see Cathy's grave, can we please go see Checkers grave. He's going to need some flowers too." I thought it was pretty cute (and funny) that he loved that dog so much that months and months later it was still such a big deal when we were talking about remembering! So, here is a picture of Checkers...

TV Obsessions...

So, everyone knows that Idol came down to the David's...And by now I am sure you all know that David Cook WON!!! But what you might not know is just how obsessed I am with this show, and particularly how much I have loved David Cook since the beginning!! I LOVE the guy and I have totally wanted him to win and been rooting for and predicting him winning since basically his first audition. Well before he was becoming a stand out on the show. (If you ever look at or listen to the songs on this blog you may have guessed I love him as I have 2 of his songs on there) So, needless to say, I was totally happy with the outcome last night. Now, I think Archuleta was good and I would have loved seeing a Utah boy win, but YEAH FOR COOK!!! This is an especially exciting win as I have been bitter with Idol since Clay Aiken came in 2nd (I still feel bitter and a bit pissed that he lost when I think about that-especially since my in-laws wanted Ruben so bad and I wanted Clay so bad and I ended up watching the finale at their house-I hate when I don't win, and I don't take the teasing well when I am SOOOOO into the show, a downfall of mine...)

That all aside, Yeah for David Cook!!!

Now, I try not to get into any new shows as I realize I am already quite addicted to TV as it is. But I am sitting here watching as new show and as I watch it, I realize it is quickly becoming a favorite and I expect to love it like I love Idol....Oh no! Anyway, world, meet my new obsession:

43. Favorite memory of the place you live? I have a lot of great memories of Spokane. Some of my favorites have been just exploring the city and the parks with Wes and the kids. I loved going on our daily walks from Gonzaga to Riverfront Park, and I love going to Coeur d'Alene as a family. I have also loved our playgroups! So, so much fun!!!
44. Name one good habit you have. I put this question cause people always want to know your worst habit-doesn't anyone want to know the positive side? My answer is: one good habit is reading scriptures and saying prayers daily as a family.
45. Favorite game show to watch on TV. I LOVE game shows and watch too many each day. Faves (in no particular order) are Price is Right, Family Feud, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Cash Cab.

Kindle came home...

On Thursday May 15th we took Kindle home from the hospital. Here are the pics from that day (well a couple are pics from the next day after Armour's haircut). Enjoy.

Mom and baby-I know I still look pregnant, but give me a break-it was only 2 days after having a baby!! Notice though that I left the hospital wearing my normal jeans (I did have to change immediately upon getting home so I could breath again, but the point is, I wore my normal jeans home after having a baby!!!)

Look how little they look in these chairs at first-remember this cause in about 2-3 months she will fill this seat up! They grow so fast!

On Friday, May 16th we buzzed Armour's hair for the first time. It was hard for me to let his crazy awesome CRAZY hair go, but we did it and it looks great...

River wild...

If you live outside of Spokane, you might not be aware that our rivers are all overflowing and going nuts here (because of the sudden warm up after the snowy winter). On our anniversary, Wes and I (and the kids) all went to one of our favorite spots to visit, bowl and pitcher, and checked out the wild running river (this was before it was flooding). I thought you might want to check it out...

These next 2 pictures were taken last fall when Johnson grandparents were here. I wanted to include these because you can see all that nice rocky area there where Ender and Steve (Grandpa) are standing throwing rocks, and where Dad and Solace are standing on the big rock. Check out the third and fourth pics to see what that looks like now... That is what it looks like as of Saturday...



This video is awesome cause you can see how fast the river is running...I am not sure about what it sounds like or about my commentary as I cannot hear it on this computer (the speakers are broken). Enjoy the crazy river...

Ahhhh...

How does one pack with 4 kids?! Seriously?! Especially when one child is only a week old and nurses all the time?! And seriously how does one pack when one is still recovering from childbirth?! AHHHHHHH.....
Frustrations aside, we ARE moving, so packing and cleaning and everything must move forward...In case you don't know, we (the kids and I) are moving next Saturday. We will be going to Utah for 3 weeks while Wes stays here and finishes his work. (Thank you SOOOO much to Jimmy and Carly who are willing to let him stay with them-you guys are seriously the best.)

So, around June 20-21, Wes will meet us in Utah and we will drive on to Omaha where we will be closing on our house on June 24th.

So, if you live in Utah, and want to come visit with us while we are there, let me know. We will be there in about a week and a half. And for those friends in Omaha, we will be there (for at least 4 years) starting around June 23 or 24.

And for my great friends in Spokane, I am so sad to be leaving!! My bed rest jipped me out of a lot of my time here, but I have loved it and have loved getting to know so many great people! I know a lot of us are moving to various locations around the country, but I hope we can keep in touch! Spokane rocks and I cannot believe the time here is almost up.

Well, I better try to get some of that packing done while the older kids are at school...
