So, I have never donated blood as I am terrified of sharp object including needles. But Wes was in charge of getting people to donate blood in our stake's blood drive, and he convinced me to do it. I was scared, and nervous, but I thought about what if one of my kids needed blood someday? I want to make sure it is there to use if it is needed! So, I decided to go for it. Truthfully, I thought my iron levels would stop me from donating, and then I could say "Dang-well, at least I tried..." But, your iron has to be above 12.5, and mine was 12.6, so I got in under the wire, and I did in fact donate blood. It was not a pleasant experience, but I will do it again at the blood drive in December because it really could save a life!
As a side note, I have never been an organ donor because the whole idea of it weirds me out a bit, but again I thought of my little people and what if, and when I got my new licence, I checked that organ donor box...wow, some big steps for me, and I do not regret either decision! Go donate blood if you can! Go do something that makes you nervous and is for the greater good!! Seriously!
Here are a few pics of the blood donation day. (FYI-I went alone early on Saturday and donated, came home, we all got in the car, dropped Wes off to sit at the table he was assigned to for an hour, then the kids and I went on an errand and came back to get Wes.)
My arm-proof maybe?!

It was fun to see you guys on Saturday! Yay for giving blood! I've done it for years but I can't convince Adam to do it...so we have a little bet going on...and he'll have to give blood in December-ish! HA! Funny, the doctor can poke others but refuses to be poked, even getting shots...he'll get the nasal flu mist stuff instead of the flu shot! Wimp!:) Good for you though; I administer blood to my patients almost weekly so I see how vital that donated blood is to my cancer patients. Yay for Beckee!
Good for you! I have tried to donate blood, and they won't let me (various reasons each time, it kind of makes me mad). I'm glad you're an organ donor now, Heavenly Father will make sure we get them back when we need them again. :) I'm proud of you!
As a total side note, I am also terrified of sharp objects, like needles (I think we must both get that from Mom)-which is one of the reasons we decided not to do these shots that suposedely prevent pre term labor. . . maybe I should done something that scares me. . . oh well.
WAY TO DONATE! I donated at the stake blood drive as well I must have missed you. Blast.
I'm like an unpaid promoter of donating blood. I do it as often as I can and was so bummed when I couldn't donate for 7 months because of a medication I was on. I do it because it never bothers me and there are so many people who can't donate I guess I try to compensate. :)
Way to save up to 3 lives!
Realized I didn't comment: the Iodine makes your arm look particularly ghoulish. Good work I was totally ltraumatized the first time I gave blood. I always thought people who took their kids to those things were warped.
Also don't tell my mother that you are an organ donor... I'm still not sure she will honor me in that death wish (which is why Ashley is listed as my next of kin)
Wesley is an organ donor now too-guess I shouldn't mention that either, huh?!
