My friend has a family member that is about to turn 16. She is thinking of ideas of stuff to give him in a Dating/driving kit. I gave her a bunch of ideas, but one that intrigued me was to put together a bunch of people's stories of their best and worst dates and compile them into a sort of dos and don'ts of dating thing using the stories. So, here is yet another chance to participate on my blog. Please, PLEASE share your best and worst dates here as a comment. Maybe if we get some good participation here, we can do a poll to vote on who had the worst date ever-that would be fun! I will think about this for a while and add my best and worst dates on the end of this post...check back soon for it!, and in the mean time-comment with your best and worst-feel free to write as long of comments as it takes!!!
Ok-a few bad dates (I actually have more bad kissing stories than bad date stories-and no, those bad kisses generally did not happen on dates...weird, but true).
1-My first date ever was to my school's Homecoming just a few days after I turned 16-my date was like 3 or so hours late picking me up and we hardly spent any time at the dance at all.
2-"The infamous 20-minute-date" I had a guy ask me out to go to the Manti pageant (pretty extensive date fyi-like a 2 hour drive or so to get there, then you watch a big pageant and drive 2-3 hour back.) I knew I didn't want to spend that much time alone with this guy as I had already been out with him a couple times, but he assured me that it wasn't just us-it was a whole group of our friends from the U going and it was more of a group date thing. So I agreed. He picked me up that night, said he had a great surprise for me, but wouldn't tell me. As we got just about 10 minutes from my house he tried to hold my hand which if you knew me, you know that was not a big deal, so I was ok with that, but I did make sure he knew it did not mean anything. He said "really, it doesn't? Cause if you don't like that, you won't like your surprise." I was like, "um...ok, what's this surprise?" He said "Well, it actually is just going to be the 2 of us, none of our friends are coming!" I was ticked and told him to take me home, and he did.
3-Once I had a guy trick me into going out with him by telling me it was a double date with my awesome friends Kirsten and Scot (who were married by then). I was ok with that, and would have gone out with the guy anyway if he had just asked, but the funny thing about this date is that he told me that Kirsten and Scot were just running late throughout the date and kept calling them and faking calls from them through the whole night, finally saying that he thought they would not make it altogether and that we should just go to the movies (after the dinner was over) without them. We did, the date was ok until the next day when I asked Kirsten and Scot what happened last night and they had no idea what I was talking about, they had never even talked to my date and they were at a wedding reception all night.
4-Once, actually ended up being the last date I went on before I started dating my Wesley, 2 guys from high school asked me out, one I had dated a lot before his mission and one I had never been out with. I said yes to the one I had never gone out with and told the other one I wasn't feeling well and rescheduled for later in the week. I was on my date, and the first half of the night went well, then we met up with some other people for a movie and the other guy was there alone. He ended up being the only one of the "other people" we were meeting that showed up, so I ended up in an awkward movie situation with my date, and the guy I had told I was too sick to go out with. Needless to say-the other date never happened...Yeah-does that story show karma slapping me in the face or what?!
One of my funniest dates was when Spencer tried to make me and Jon Woodbury (who were really just friends-I was already dating Wes at this point) kiss by holding our heads in his hands at the dinner table and yelling "Kiss boy and girl, Kiss" over and over again.
It is hard to pick a best date as I loved dating and count many many dates as great dates! I will say that I never have had a bad date with Wes and I think it is because we were both genuinely interested in each other and we are awesomely fun people anyway! I will type at least one specific great date after I go pick up Sol at the bus stop!

Nice-I'll think and add mine!
I can't wait to hear these stories, I'm sure there are some good ones!!! Thanks, this'll be great fun!
Worst date ever -- My date played computer games the entire time... he literally didn't noticed when I got in my car and left. (Worse that almost breaking legs, wrecking a car, running into old girlfriends, sobbing about old girl friends, surprise temple excursions, doubling with brother brother and watching him put the moves on...)
I figure as long as the guy is attentive and complimentary (and the girl is the same) its usually a pretty good date.
I liked the date youwent on with your brother when he was putting the moves on...ah well, I guess one girls worst is anothers best (OK-not my best date as I DID get there really late after getting rear ended and all, but the part that you didn't like, I really did)?!
Let's see. . . .my worst date was probably senior prom. My date was really boring and it was quite akward, he totally liked me and I was not into him. . . .most of the dance, I didn't know where he was and I just sat there (I luckily had a great friends that danced with me). I specifically asked him before the dance if we needed change of clothes for any activities and he said no . . . come to find out after the dance that all the guys in the group told their dates that and the activity after the dance was soccer at an indoor soccer field. . . the purposefully told us not to bring a change of clothes so we couldn't play and ruin their game. . . . I didn't know any of the other girls and they didn't really like me, so I just sat there in silence bored to death. . . I seriously almost called Dad 2 or 3 times to come pick me up, but I didn't want to worry him or make him think something was actually wrong (other than the fact that I was TOTALLY bored)! Of course, Jr. prom kind of sucked too because I had a broken ankle and I was in and out of it on major pain pills.
My worst date ever:
I doubled with my friend Jenny who had promised to go out with this guy and she wanted me to come so he set me up with his friend/roommate. My date (I do not remember his name, gee I wonder why?) ignored me the whole night and after dinner we went back to their apartment because they were in college...woo, we were just in high school.
Anyway, Jenny's date takes off to his bedroom with an Asian girl who was over visiting with the other roommates. Apparently my date really liked the Asian girl also so he took off on his bike really upset and I never saw him again. So, Jenny and I were sitting there not knowing what to do and asking the other roommates if there was a phone to call one of our parents. There was no phone and we were about to leave and find a pay phone when Jenny's date emerged from his room looking quite disheveled (if you know what I mean!), apologized and took us home.
I had the worst headache and Jenny's date cranked his annoying stereo so loud and didn't care that my head was aching. I asked him to turn it down and he turned it down one notch, uh huh, thanks! I finally fell asleep and when we got back to Jenny's house she woke me up and they both started laughing because apparently I looked like a mess. Because I was sleeping over at Jenny's and was not feeling good, she just told me to sleep in her bed and she took the couch, what a great friend!
The weirdest part was that this guy had wanted to take Jenny on a date for quite a while and then he acted like a total idiot when she finally agreed.
First Janelle wins, I don't need any other submissions...
Secondly, I was extremely amused when my brother was putting the moves on that girl... what's her name... I just had to bring it up again and see if he still squirms.
Lastly, (is that even a word?) I'm hearing a lot of really bad dates but not any super ones... and that's just sad... I've been thinking for hours and haven't come up with anything really top notch. I was hoping to read one that would jog my memory.
Okay, Stefanie.
I had a date in high school that drove me up to Brighton ski resort in the early spring in the evening. It was a full moon and a very clear night and you could see all the stars. When he parked the car, he turned on a CD of my favorite songs. He left the headlights on and came over to my side of the truck and asked me to dance. We danced outside in front of his truck-it was very romantic!
My perfect date was the night Jeremy proposed! That sounds cheesy, but it really was perfect. He took me to dinner at the Wildflower restaurant at the Iron Blossom Lodge at Snowbird, then we went for a walk and stopped on the bridge at the Snowbird Center. There was still about 2 feet of snow on the ground. . . it was also a perfectly clear night and you could see all the stars in the sky. Then we went to his house and there we had dessert by candlelight in the basement, just the 2 of us. It was great! . . .
Of course, later his whole family joined us and talked and talked and talked about my ring and all the fun wedding plans. . . . .
:)
Happier now, Stefanie?
Ok, I feel like I should give credit where credit is due. . . Before Jr Prom, the same day, with my Jr Prom date, we went to the Semi final state football game. He was so sweet-he brought hot chocolate in a thermas and cups for us. He had brought snacks too. He also brought ibuprofen and water in case I needed it (he didn't realize when he was planning it that I was on MAJOR pain pills). He also brought a blanket and a pillow for me to rest my ankle on while we watched the game. He was very sweet and despite the broken ankle, it was actually a very fun date. . . .
Yes Andrea I am much happier... sort of. I still have no stellar date to report.
I'm starting to think I've never been on a really great date.
Well, my advice is the same advise my Grandpa gave me, "If a girl looks like she needs to be kissed, you ought to kiss her." I can honestly say that most of my dating regrets stem from not following this sage advice. Fortune favors the brave!
I totally did not know about the date we were supposed to be there for. I can guess who it was though. How crazy is that!
Worst date: When I worked at fat camp, there was one other mormon boy there. I really liked him and we had a magical evening walking in the moonlight and chasing fireflies in the field. He walked me to my cabin and I was sure we were going to share that magical first kiss. Instead he looked at me and said "High 5"! He high fived me and left! Needless to say I started dating Paul shortly after that!
My other worst date was for a dance in high school. we were dancing on the patio and I was really hot, so I sprinted inside to get a drink from the drinking fountain. However, I ran straight into a plate glass window and fell right on my back! Did my date run to my rescue! Nah, he just laughed at me! Ah good times.
